b_250_200_16777215_00___images_Mazzoleni-Paolo.jpgI am graduate in Geology at the University of Catania, I work as associate Professor in the scientific sector GEO/09 at the Faculty of Mathematical Physical and Natural Sciences where he has lectured numerous courses in petrography (GEO07) and applied petrography (GEO09). From the academic year 2010/11 is the president of degree courses in Geology. I conduct research on the use of innovative methodologies in mineralogy and microstructure of stones and pottery analysis; petrographic applications in the field of environment and cultural heritage, with particular reference to study the mineralogical, petrographic and geochemical characterization of materials used in stone monuments of Eastern Sicily and their degradation processes; archaeometric study of pottery of different ages from archaeological sites in Sicily, southern Italy and Crete; petrological analysis of arenaceous and politic sedimentary sequences. Such researches, carried out in collaboration with both Italian (University of Palermo, Messina, Cosenza and Bari) and foreign researchers (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxford, UK; ESRF Grenoble - European Synchrotron Radiation Facility; Saclay, Laboratoire Leon Brillouin; Jülich, - Institut für Festkörperforschung Forschungszentrum; Barcellona and Granada, - Departamento de Mineralogía y Petrología, Universidad de Granada; Athens, - Institute of Materials Science, N.C.S.R. ‘Demokritos'; Sheffield - Department of Archaeology; Tangeri - University of Abdelmalek Essaadi, Department of Earth Sciences), are part of the study programmes financed by M.I.U.R. and the EU and have had numerous publications in scientific journals.
